Is Your Dog’s Weight Healthy?
four basic ways to tell if your dog is overweight or just perfect:
1: You should be able to feel your dog's ribs, but not see them except with hounds races. There should be only a thin layer of fat between the skin bones. If there is excess fat covering the ribs, he / she is overweight. If the ribs are under heavy fat cover, he / she is obese.
2: standing on your dog, you should be able to see an hourglass where there is a hollow at the waist from behind just before the ribs to the hips. Races differ, but if you can not tell where the size begins, he / she is probably overweight.
3: Looking at the side profile of your dog, you should see the tummy tuck starting just behind the last rib and climb into the hind legs.
4: Ask your veterinarian to assess the size-dog every check-up. Once your dog reaches maturity, ask her optimum weight. In general, 15% above that weight is obese; zero to 15%
